Society is rife with shaming the state of genitalia. This behavior ends up promoting non-therapeutic genital modifications. I was going to use the term “surgeries” after the word “modifications” but there are cultures that perform rituals outside of typical surgical environments (sterilized, for example). These modifications happen with consenting adults and children alike.

Aesop’s fable “The Fox Without a Tail” is perfect at exposing this behavior.

Some believe that it is more than just the appearance, but they have been told that the natural genitalia is less clean or more prone to disease. Many body parts, if not properly cared for, are prone to be unhygienic or diseased; this does not mean we should pre-emptively remove those parts.

The more you learn about the anatomy, physiology, functionality, and innervation of genitalia, the more likely you are to see all genitalia as beautiful and amazing. The risk to learning these things is that you may have to face that you are harmed because of a genital modification that was performed on you as a young child. Just remember that body-shaming may lead someone to unaliving themselves over body dysmorphia.
